Students: How do I get started with Information Technology and Innovation?

Basics:

Up to one hour after registering for classes, you will receive an email to the email address that you provided admissions. This email will contain your WCSU User Account information and walk you through setting up a password.

University ID:

Your WCSU University ID is a unique 8-digit number beginning with a “5” and is used by the university in place of your social security number.

WCSU User Account:

Your WCSU User Account is used as your identification for the many technology resources you will use during your academic experience. Your username is your last name followed by a 3-digit number. This username will be yours for your entire enrollment duration at WCSU.

WCSU User Account Password:

New students will their WCSU User Account credentials via the email address that was provided to admissions up to one hour after they register for classes. This account will grant you access to your Student Windows Account, Student Banner Account, Student Blackboard Account, and Student Email Account, as well as several other Student User Tools. If you are unsure what your account information is please contact the IT&I Service Desk at 203-837-8467 or at requestIT@wcsu.edu

Once you have your Western account created, you can reset your password at https://wcsu.edu/password at any time.

WestConnduit (University Portal):

WestConnduit, Western’s campus-wide portal, provides a more streamlined approach to retrieving information. For example, WestConnduit is fully integrated with Banner Student Services which allows students convenient access to their class schedules, grades, unofficial transcripts, and financial aid information.
Furthermore, institutions can personalize portal content to the roles, interests, and needs of individual end users. Students, along with receiving campus-wide announcements, receive personalized and targeted announcements based on their student role (ex: Psychology major). WestConnduit will also enable students to set up or join groups based on special interest (Debate Society, Chemistry club, etc.). The Group Studio allows group leaders and members to post information and partake in discussions specific to the group.
Ultimately, WestConnduit enables the University to communicate more effectively with students, faculty, and staff. It is an integral part of the University’s plan to consolidate information and create a more unified digital campus.  WestConnduit can be accessed by visiting http://www.wcsu.edu and clicking on the WestConnduit link under Westconn Essentials on the upper right side of the page.

Requirements for Using Computers on the Network

To use the university computers on campus:

You must have a Western Windows Account (username and password). With these credentials, you can use any university computer. If you do not have a Western Windows Account, follow the information mentioned under the section WCSU User Account Password found above in this article.

Note – You need to be a registered student in order to have your account created.

To use the Western Wireless Network and Wireless Printing:

You must have a Western Account and a wireless-compatible device. Western is totally wireless, including Residence Halls.

WCSU Email

To access your email, you must first obtain your Western Account. This information will be sent to the email address that you provided admissions up to one hour after registering for classes. These credentials will be used as the username and password for all university platforms.

To access your WCSU Email, you may either go to WestConnduit and select the “Email” icon in the upper right, or go directly to: http://mail.wcsu.edu.

Please note that students have the extension “@wcsu.edu” after their username. For example, if your username is smith123 your email will be  smith123@wcsu.edu

E-Learning (Blackboard Learn):

Blackboard Learn allows students to access academic materials online in order to accomplish their instructional goals. With Blackboard, it is possible to provide the following online: assessments, assignments, chat and whiteboard, discussions, content files, media libraries, syllabus, learning modules, URLs, course calendar, announcements, and course mail. Ask your professors if they will be using Blackboard Learn for your classes.

Log in to Blackboard Learn, https://wcsu.blackboard.com/ using your WCSU User Account Username and Password.

Banner Self Serve allows students to self-register for classes, query Financial Aid information, make payments, view your academic transcript and much more. In order to access Banner Self-Serve, students need a Western username and password. Students can access Banner from any computer, on or off campus, that has Internet access.

Citrix Workspace App

Citrix Workspace App is a client software that provides access to XenDesktop and XenApp installations. XenApp is the industry’s leading solution for application and desktop delivery, with over 100 million users worldwide. Network Drives

Information Technology & Innovation offers network file storage for all current Western students, faculty, and staff to save their documents and data. Remote Access

Information Technology & Innovation has implemented Western’s Remote Access. Software

Microsoft Software: Students can download a free copy of Microsoft Office 2016 for Windows and/or Mac.  Please go to this link:  https://portal.office.com/OLS/MySoftware.aspx

Be sure to use your full email address for your username. Example:  username123@wcsu.edu
